R&D Systems and Software Engineer
Are you passionate about systems design and software development and at the same time encouraged by a world-changing job, contributing to saving lives and reducing global pollution? Then join us pioneering a sustainable and prosperous use of space technology for new maritime applications.
Sternula – first Danish commercial satellite operator
Our mission is to connect the oceans using the new VHF Data Exchange System (VDES) standard. We want to save lives, increase efficiency of ship operations, reduce pollution, provide more up-to-date weather forecasts, and much more. At the same time Sternula is a small and agile company and a global enterprise. Our organization is based on values such as trust, responsibility, fairness, an open mind, and high ambitions.
Development and ambition are in our DNA and working at Sternula will be a unique opportunity for you to make a difference, to create value gaining influence, and develop your career as the results occur.
Sternula builds a satellite-based service and communications company, which allows for cheap, global connectivity to every ship with a VHF antenna no matter if it operates in the Arctics or near the Equator.
This means developing, implementing, and operating a complete system connecting maritime authorities, ship owners, and maritime service providers. A system providing efficient, highly automated, cheap, and safe solutions.
You will be the R&D systems and software specialist closely working with our CTO and subcontractors and soon also an increasing number of colleagues to build the full technology and software base enabling the services. Not mentioning all activities being on your desk, some will be to work on full-stack analysis, various system designs, autonomous satellite control systems, billing systems.
The job offers a combination of hands-on codework, design, time & project planning etc. The job and role is a great opportunity to influence how Sternula does its essential, basic, and company-defining R&D work. Some traveling will be part of the job.
The analysis of real life challenges makes you eager to design efficient solutions for Sternula’s operational platform and take others with you on the journey.
We believe that you have somewhat 6 years or more experience from R&D product development, hold a Master of Science in IT, electronic engineering or similar, and you are curious, self-driven and a fast learner.
You might gain from experience such as full-stack embedded software projects with C/C++, simple web frontend development, virtualization and server infrastructure, network architecture design, etc. In your practice you like to contribute on your own but also to collaborate openly with peers. Your experience and analytical sense makes you spot the weak links, which you communicate firmly but respectfully to the team and our partners.
Even though you seek high quality you strive to learn identifying the ”good enough”, where necessary.
Sternula will be a fantastic next step opportunity in your career as integral part of a tech and business minded team at the forefront of the industry utilizing space technology.
You’ll be part of our young, agile, and ambitious company situated in Aalborg – the very center of the most attractive science and business development work environment, NOVI (www.novi.dk), just next to Aalborg University (www.aau.dk) and many of our business and tech partners.
We compensate you with a competitive salary and a high level of flexibility in your workplace and tooling choices.
