Sternula, VIVANTEX Team Up to Strengthen Maritime Connectivity
During the International Spacetech Start-Up Supporting Program, carried out in Tawian, Sternula signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with VIVANTEX, a leading Taiwanese company specializing in AloT, ClubSat-VDES and information integration with service.
This partnership marks an important milestone in bringing the VHF Data Exchange System (VDES) and Maritime Messaging Service (MMS) to Taiwan, aiming to enhance the safety, intelligence, and efficiency of the nation’s maritime operations.
The MoU was signed by Sternula’s CEO, Lars Moltsen, VIVANTEX’s Samuel Liu, and Søren Gram Riisgaard from Space Denmark, who joined the occasion as our consultant and co-signed the agreement.
VDES - The Future Standard for Secure Maritime Communications
VDES builds on the well-established AIS system, a mandatory SOLAS carriage requirement since 2002, currently deployed on more than 300,000 vessels worldwide. By introducing secure data channels, significantly greater capacity, and global two-way satellite connectivity, all without requiring new antennas onboard ships or on land, VDES represents a major leap forward for maritime digitalization. This system is designed to enable new digital services that enhance maritime safety and support more efficient route planning and traffic management, ultimately benefiting ship owners, ports, and authorities.
At Sternula, we look forward to continuing the dialogue and exploring how this journey can grow. Our shared commitment reflects the strong international collaboration that drives this project.
Sternula is working to make global, real-time AIS 2.0 connectivity a reality, taking a lead in technology development and standardization, and supporting the maritime industry’s transition to digital operations while contributing to enhanced safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.
