Major Global Hub Port
Singapore is a country committed to innovation. This is also highly prevalent in their maritime sector, where they pride themselves on being frontrunners in technological advancements.
Singapore Maritime Week is an event that allows maritime stakeholders to display, present, and discuss all that is new to the industry. Of course, Sternula found it highly relevant to participate.
As an example, we had the pleasure of experiencing Oceans-x, a new platform being developed for the implementation of S-100 data.
Meeting The Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA)
At the event, Sternula had the privilege to meet two representatives from MPA. They shared their interest and commitment to the implementation of an operational VDES setup in Singapore.
This further highlights Singapore’s willingness for technological advancement, and the potential for a partnership between MPA and Sternula.
Visiting Nanyang Technological University
During our time in Singapore, we were invited to visit the satellite research center at Nanyang Technological University.
Director Wee Seng Lim gave a tour of the facilities, and shared his insights of what it takes to develop and operate satellites.
A fascinating tour, including a peek into the institutes satellite control room.
Sparring With Local Space Agencies
During the trip, Sternula representatives also had the pleasure of meeting NuSpace Inc. and A*STAR, two space agencies based in Singapore. At Sternula, as a company known for being a commercial VDES satellite operator, we found it interesting to learn about their goals for the future regarding VDES satellites. Both agencies highlighted the importance and relevance of building an equatorial constellation of VDES satellites, to boost maritime connectivity in Singapore.
The trip brought inspirational sparring, cementing the importance of advancing maritime efficiency and safety through digitalization. Singaporean maritime stakeholders agree with us – This is done best through AIS 2.0 (VDES and supplementary technologies).
